The Green Clean Institute has developed a more robust project to promote the real value of Green cleaning at Seriously Green Network where the plan is to bring the best Green ideas, products, and services helpful to cleaning services anywhere in the United States and our international associates. All too often, the janitorial community has defaulted from the higher standards of Green cleaning to the simple task of "cleaning the building for appearance."
We believe that a Green cleaning service should "Clean for Health first and Appearance second." The principles of a Healthy office and a clean office are not at odds. In fact, they should be complimentary. What interferes are:
- Untrained workers due to low pay, language, and high turnover
- Narrow profit margins that pressure cleaning services to limit time on the job
- Cut throat practices of competitor cleaning services that are not honored after the bid is awarded.
This is a battle between "Get By Cleaning" and "Proper Cleaning". Sadly, companies that look only at bidding wars are eventually going to be unhappy with the results. Cut rate, low bid companies often find themselves struggling to pay for the inflation factor on supplies, gas, insurance, and labor. The result is an immense pressure to "Get In, Get Done, and Get Out" so that three jobs per night are done for the labor cost of two jobs.
